At 15, Marco discovered his passion for the unique and fragile ecosystem of the Galapagos Islands. While working as a volunteer guide at the breeding center known as “La Galapaguera Seminatural,” he learned about the local flora and fauna from park rangers. Through his interaction with visitors from around the world, he understood the importance of preserving the islands for future generations. This experience inspired him to pursue his dream of becoming a naturalist guide and to become an advocate for sustainable tourism.
In 2007, Marco left his family to study biology at the Escuela Superior Politécnica del Litoral (ESPOL), where he earned a full scholarship for academic excellence thanks to his outstanding performance on the admission exam. During his time at ESPOL, he worked as a teaching assistant in biology and statistics, and taught physics, biology and mathematics at a high school in Guayaquil.
In 2013, Marco founded his own travel agency to promote sustainable tourism in the Galapagos Islands. Through his agency, he has helped many tourism students from mainland universities take part in internships and volunteer programs on the islands.
In 2016, Marco’s effort paid off when he was selected for the government’s new Guide Course. He not only secured one of the few places available, but was also recognized with an award for excellence.
Today, Marco works as a naturalist guide and lives in Puerto Baquerizo Moreno, the capital of the province. He continues to run his travel agency and to support students, universities, tour operators and hotels in the Galapagos through his volunteer program. Marco’s dedication to protecting and conserving the Galapagos Islands ensures that future generations will be able to enjoy the unique beauty of these islands.
Thanks to his deep knowledge of the local flora and fauna, Marco offers visitors to the Galapagos Islands an unmatched experience. His great attention to detail and his contagious enthusiasm for sharing his knowledge make him a guide in high demand among those seeking an enriching and educational experience.
Marco belongs to one of the oldest families in the Galapagos Islands, which gives him a unique perspective on the history and culture of this beautiful archipelago. His dedication to his work, together with his deep connection to the islands and their people, makes him an invaluable resource for any travel group exploring the Galapagos.
