Marco Vizcaino is a highly qualified biologist and Galapagos National Park naturalist guide with a passion for the unique wildlife and habitats of the Galapagos Islands. He was granted a full scholarship at the university, thanks to his excellent admission exam, which al-lowed him to pursue his passion for biology. Marco’s deep love and knowledge of the natural world led him to become a naturalist guide at the Galapagos National Park, where he has continued to grow and learn.
Meet Marco Garcia, a naturalist guide who has dedicated his life to protecting the Galapagos Islands.
At the age of 15, Marco discovered his passion for the unique and fragile ecosystem of the Galapagos Islands. While working as a volunteer guide at the breeding center known as “la Galapaguera Semi natural,” he was taught about the local flora and fauna by Galapagos park rangers. Through interactions with visitors from around the world, he realized the importance of preserving the islands for future generations. This experience inspired him to pursue his dream job as a naturalist guide and become an advocate for sustainable tourism.
In 2007, Marco left his family to pursue his studies in biology at ESUELA SUPERIOR POLITECNICA DEL LITORAL (ESPOL), where he received a full academic excellence scholarship due to his outstanding performance on the admission exam. While at ESPOL, he worked as a teaching assistant in biology and statistics and taught physics, biology, and math in a junior high school in Guayaquil.
In 2013, Marco founded his own travel agency to promote sustainable tourism in the Galapagos Islands. Through his agency, he has helped numerous tourism students from mainland universities participate in internships and volunteer programs in the islands.
In 2016, Marco’s hard work paid off when he was selected to participate in the government’s new Guide’s Curse. He not only secured one of the few available spots, but he was also recognized with an “award for excellence.”
Today, Marco works as a naturalist guide and resides in Puerto Baquerizo Moreno, the capital of the province. He continues to run his travel agency and support students, universities, and Galapagos tour operators and hotels through his volunteer program. Marco’s dedication to the protection and preservation of the Galapagos Islands ensures that future generations will be able to enjoy the unique beauty of these islands.
With his extensive knowledge of the local flora and fauna, Marco provides an unparalleled experience for visitors to the Galapagos Is-lands. He has a keen eye for detail and a contagious enthusiasm for sharing his knowledge, making him a sought-after guide for those looking for an immersive and educational experience.
Marco is also a member of one of the oldest families of the Galapagos Islands, giving him a unique insight into the history and culture of this beautiful archipelago. His dedication to his work, combined with his deep connection to the islands and its people, make him an in-valuable asset to any travel group exploring the Galapagos.
